Firefighter Oliver Hatfield. sadly passed away on Saturday 15 July 2023, with his family at his side, after a long battle with cancer.
Ollie joined Avon Fire and Rescue Service on 28 July 2008 as an on-call firefighter at Portishead Fire Station. He later joined the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) support team on 1 January 2015.
In 2018, Ollie joined Bristol Airport Fire and Rescue Service as a wholetime firefighter and continued his role as an on-call firefighter in Portishead.
Ollie was well respected within his community and across both fire and rescue services in which he served. He was an honourable firefighter, an honest colleague and friend, and most of all a loving father, husband and son.
Ollie was always the first to put his name down to support various charity challenges hosted by the Service, including: completing the 3 peaks challenge three times, various ladder climb challenges and gruelling treadmill runs, half marathons and local events for many local charities at the station, which all contributed to raising thousands of pounds for those in need.
Ollie did not know a lot of the people he was raising money for but as soon as the idea of raising money for someone else was mentioned, he was straight on to it. This sums up Ollie, he was caring to all, committed to friends and family, and an inspiration to many. His loss will be greatly felt across the fire and rescue services, his family and loved ones and his local community.
Ollie, from all of us at Avon Fire and Rescue Service, thank you for your service.
