Lou Smith passed away on 17th November 2023.
It is with much sadness we have received notification of the death of AF&RS pensioner Lou Smith who passed away on 17th November 2023.
Lou Smith started in the City of Bath Brigade just before Avon Fire Brigade was formed. He was a Leading Firefighter at Bath Blue Watch and also for a period in the Staff Office, also Bath.
Lou was a very good musician and played piano/keyboard, and later in life was a member of a Status Quo tribute band. He toured with this and did play gigs in Europe. Lou is fondly remembered as being a bit of a comedian and could also mimic people quite well.
The Funeral Service will on 30th November at 13:00 hrs at the Top Chapel, Haycombe Crematorium, 209 Whiteway Road, Bath BS2 2RQ, followed by a wake at the Riverside Inn at Saltford – all welcome. (please note the funeral details are taken from the Avon Fire Folk facebook page).
Our thoughts go out to Lou’s family and friends at this sad time.
Memories from a colleague: – Lou Smith and I were the last people to join The City of Bath Fire Brigade ( I Think ) We spent 15 weeks on basic training with Devon Fire Brigade The Training School consisted of Lou, Me, two former members of the RAF Rescue Helicopter Service and 25 former Royal Marines. Squad drill was a joy. They put Lou and I in the centre of the parade in the hope that no one would notice that we couldn’t march for toffees.
Lou was a bit of a character . It’s a long time ago but I think he had the idea of starting a pop group in Bath. I left Bath after 5 years and never found out about the pop group.
May you rest in peace Lou
