Jeffrey Lovell – 30.11.2024

Jeffrey Lovell passed away on Saturday 30th November 2024 aged 72 years.

Jeff joined the County of Avon Fire Brigade in 1975 served at Bedminster Fire Station (C5) for over 10 years, during this time he was the Fire Brigade Union Representative for over four years. Following which he was promoted to Leading Fireman then Sub Officer and finally as the Brigade Photographer in the rank of Staion Officer and retired on 15.06.2005 after 30 years’ service.  After retirement, Jeff served on the Bristol City Council Labour group as a Cabinet member for the Social Care team as also a member of the Avon Fire Authority for many years, he also served for one year as Lord Mayor of Bristol in 2016, during which time he was invited to open the new Temple Back Fire Station, then a year as deputy Lord Mayor in 2017. sadly due to ill-health he stood down as a Councillor in 2021.

Jeff loved fishing and spent some off duty time in France fishing for Carp, he also started a Green Van log carrying service, over all Jeff led a very active life.

Jeff’s funeral was held on 17 December 2024 at South Bristol Crematorium, followed by a wake at the Folk House in Whitchurch.  There was a private family burial for Jeff following the funeral.

Jeff will be greatly missed by his wife Bridget, his family, friends and former Fire Service colleagues.
