Roger Strickland aged 85 yrs passed away on 6th September 2025 after a long illness.
Rogers son Mark’s memories of his Dad: What I recall about Dad’s Fire Service career:
Dad joined the Somerset Fire Brigade as a Retained Firefighter working at Blagdon in the early 60s. Around 1966 he joined full- time starting at Weston, then moved to Taunton, Bridgwater and ending up back at Weston early 70s in the County of Avon Fire Brigade and was soon a Station Officer.
He then worked in Fire Prevention out of Weston until retirement around 1990. As a Fire Prevention Officer he covered ‘C’ Division. I remember two of his favourite locations that he covered were Bristol Airport and Ashton Gate Stadium. For a short period he was an acting Assistant Divisional Officer.
He loved his time in the Fire Service.
Funeral service is at Christ Church, Nailsea on Friday 3rd October 2025 at 11:30 am Followed by private family Cremation.
