Roy Gummer – 20.02.2013

Position: Wholetime Station Officer.

Location: Weston-Super-Mare Fire Safety Office.

Roy joined the National Fire Service in 1947  from the armed services, he was moved around several fire stations in Somerset due to his practical qualifications and experience receiving his first promotion to Yeovil as a Leading Fireman. He was a star Polo player and  also played football for the Weston Team.

    Now I know why I have been unable to contact ‘Gum’ as he was affectionately known by my late father when they served together in the RAF during WW2. I spent many happy holidays in Weston with him and Aunt Hilda as a child and have some great memories. RIP ‘Uncle’ Gum. Jeff Boyle
