Michael (Mike) John White sadly passed away at Southmead Hospital on 24th August 2026 aged 81 and following a fall at home and surgery thereafter.
Mike was one of 6 boys and raised in South Cerney, who then moved to Bristol and commenced work as a panel beater and paint sprayer. He went on to take over the business and worked a number of years before joining Avon Fire Brigade in 1974.
After successfully completing training school at Temple Back Bristol, Mike was stationed at B6 Speedwell and served on Blue Watch for a full 25 years before retirement from the Brigade and a house move to Mark, Somerset where he went on to complete many house renovations and other build projects.
He was a very popular firefighter on Blue watch and possessed excellent practical skills, knowledge and abilities which enabled any jobs to be completed to a very high standard. Mike was a great mentor to younger firefighters and new starters on Blue watch and enjoyed sharing his skills and the knowledge of how to complete jobs well.
Mike will be greatly missed by his wife Jean and sons Jon and Paul as well as his former colleagues and friends
