Pat Aris QFSM passed away on 25th July 2015 aged 82 years.

Patrick Aris QFSM joined the County of Avon Fire Brigade as Deputy Chief Fire Officer in 1980. He started his career with Surrey Fire Brigade in 1962 after serving in the Merchant Navy. He also served with West Sussex and London Fire Brigades before returning to Surrey Fire Brigade for a second time. He became Chief Fire Officer for the County of Avon Fire Brigade in 1989 and retired in 1993.

The Chairman of the Avon Fire Authority, Councillor Peter Abraham, appointed Mr Aris as the Deputy Chief Fire Officer when he held a similar position at Avon County Council. Councillor Abrahams said “I was saddened to hear Pat had passed away as I remember him as an officer who served with great distinction. He was highly skilled in a wide range of areas from operational fire-fighting, fire safety and training. he was an excellent officer and will be greatly missed”

Funeral Service took place on Tuesday 11 August at 3pm, at a packed South Bristol Crematorium, Bedminster Down.
