Francis (Frank) George Wilton. OStJ, QFSM, MIFireE, passed away on 8th June 2019 aged 85 years, following a short illness.
Frank enlisted in the Royal Navy in 1950 as an Artificer leaving in 1954 to join the Wiltshire Fire Brigade, he became the Deputy CFO of the Gloucestershire Fire Brigade in 1972, and then onto Firemaster of the Central Region Fire Brigade in Scotland and finally taking command of the County of Avon Fire Brigade in 1984 until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Institute of Fire Engineers, awarded the Queens Fire Service Medal, and the Order of Saint John. He had a very distinguished career, one of his highlights was to welcome HRH Princess Anne to open the new Control Room at Fire Brigade Headquarters, Temple Back. He always had time to engage with all those he came into contact with, his humour was renowned throughout the Service.
His funeral will be held on Monday 8th July 13:00 at Sedgemoor Crematorium, Red Lane, Stretcholt, TA6 4SR. (On the A38 between Highbridge and Pawlett).
He leaves his wife Betty, sons Mark, Darren and daughter Shona and families.
