Chris Myles – 21.03.2022

Dear all

It is with much sadness we have received notification of the death of AF&RS pensioner Chris Myles, who sadly passed away on Monday 21st March 2022 aged 82 years of age. Chris began with the Service in 1966 and spent the majority of his career at Speedwell Fire Station and was a Sub Officer when he retired from the Service in September 1991.

Ray Southard, a colleague of Chris’ has kindly supplied the eulogy:

Eulogy for Chris Myles

Chris Myles was one the Brigade’s Characters, born of Irish Parents who settled in England where as his Uncles and Aunts who were also of Irish decent, settled in the USA, hence he frequently visited and lived at a time in the States.

An electrician by trade, Chris did as most of us, had a little earner in the building trade, he was an Entrepreneur, even at school he would scrounge Ration Coupons, buy sweets and sell them on the kids in his class, saying that he was a very generous person.

He was the first Fireman to purchase a Mercedes and later a Rolls Royce and then in turn,  drive them to work.

Rest in Pease Chris and thank you for your Friendship.

(please note the role of Fireman is now known as Firefighter within AF&RS)

Chris’ funeral is to be held at Westerleigh Crematorium on 21st April 2022 at 12.30 followed by the Wake reception in The Willow Tree Cafe, an adjoining room.

Our thoughts are with his wife Marina and family at this sad time.

A letter of condolence has been sent.
