Dennis Lucas – 06.03.2020

It is with much sadness that I inform you of the passing of Dennis Lucas aged 95 years on Friday 6th March 2020.

Dennis joined Bristol Fire Brigade in 1948, after service in the RAF and a tour of duty with the Palestine Police. He spent much of his career stationed at Hartcliffe, where he was greatly respected by colleagues for his unassuming dedication and loyalty. On two occasions he received commendations for his part in rescues at the Avon Gorge, and he was also awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in recognition of his public service. Upon retirement, having sadly been widowed a dozen years previously, Dennis embarked on many adventures as a solo globetrotter – even joining an expedition to Antarctica at the age of eighty-one! Stoically independent, he remained in his own house until last year, before spending his final months at St George’s Care Home. He is survived and fondly remembered by his three children, five grand-children and five great-grand-children.

The funeral will be a private family funeral, should anyone wish to make a donation in memory of Dennis please send it to the Fire Fighter’s Charity.
