John Walter Highams, aged 71 years, passed away on the 7th June 2020 following a fatal Heart attack.
John joined the Fire Service in Slough when he was 18 and later transferred to the Avon Fire Brigade where he retired from Avonmouth Fire Station in 1992.
He was known as ‘Johnny Omelette’ as being a great cook he usually prepared the mess meals for everyone when on duty.
After retirement John and Chris, his wife of 40 years, moved to Mousehole in Cornwall. John and Chris were very very happy. He was a gentleman in every sense of the word and everyone loved him. They travelled the world together self-driving over deserts in Namibia, camping under the stars in Botswana and swimming with humpback whales in Tonga. They adopted orphaned elephants in Kenya and this is a photograph of John with Jotto one of his orphans.
John lived life to the full and is missed by everyone that knew him. A wonderful man.
