Mike Black – 24.04.2023

It is with much sadness we have received notification of the death of AF&RS pensioner Michael Black, known as Mike Black, who passed away peacefully on 24th April 2023 at home after a long illness. Aged 88 years.

Mike was stationed at Bath in the 1960’s, followed by Fire Prevention (also at Bath) in the late 1980’s as a Station Officer until he retired in March 1990.

Those who served alongside Mike remember him as a dedicated individual, respected by his colleagues and managers alike.  He was a quiet, calm person with a very positive approach to the public and to the challenges of the job. Mike was also a significant member of the team and a pleasure to work with.

He was able to visit the Service in July 2022 and had a tour of Bath Station. Sadly, Mike’s wife Stella passed away in 2019.

Funeral Wednesday 31st May at 11.30am Haycombe Crematorium, Bath.

Our thoughts are with his son Paul, daughter-in-law Louise, granddaughter Clare, grandson Chris and family at this sad time.
