Michael Barry Smith – 14.04.2023

Michael Barry Smith passed away on 14th April 2023, aged 73years.

Mike began his 31 year career with Avon Fire Brigade in 1972. He received the ‘Silver Axe’ trophy for best recruit during initial training in 1972

He started as a Firefighter on Red Watch in Brislington. During his career he worked in numerous stations including Southmead, Bath, Bedminster and Temple Back 

He progressed from firefighter to station officer to Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO)

An enjoyable part of his career was being part of the brigades First Aid Team. They travelled all over and won multiple competitions and medals including the St John’s Grand Prior trophy. 

He retired as an ADO based in Bedminster

In retirement he enjoyed playing golf, gardening and spending time with his family

He died peacefully at home on the 14th April.

The funeral for Mike Smith is Tuesday 9th May at 1.30pm South Bristol Crematorium, Bridgewater Road, Bristol BS13 7AS.
